New Primary Care Provider Brings Holistic Approach to Family Medicine

New Primary Care Provider Brings Holistic Approach to Family Medicine

Patients of Carson Valley Health Primary Care Minden Village will notice a welcoming new face among the care providers. Corey Holt, DO has joined us from Texas and brings his family medicine expertise to Carson Valley.

Dr. Holt shares a family connection to the area - his wife’s parents live in Reno. With two children, the Holts are excited about their move and looking forward to life among the mountains, especially for the community feel and family nearby. “I’m looking forward to getting to know a new community and getting to feel like I’m a part of this area,” says Dr. Holt. He’s excited about “all the adventure there is around the area and seeing how my kids can grow up here. This is a great place to raise kids.”

For the last three years, Dr. Holt practiced in the Waco Family Medicine Residency Program, training in full-scope family medicine. “I learned that patients need a doctor who is compassionate, knowledgeable yet eager to learn, and cares for them beyond their medical problems.”

He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.

When asked what he would like to communicate with patients, Dr. Holt says: “I hope they trust me with their care. Having been hospitalized myself for different procedures and surgeries, I know what it’s like to be a patient and I can empathize with what patients go through.”

Dr. Holt highlights the importance of getting to know patients personally and truly understanding their medical needs. “I like to get to know my patient’s stories,” he says. “I look at care holistically, strive for excellence, and use evidence-based care.”

“I look at their social support, who they live with, what they do for work, what experiences they’ve had. I would like to know how I can help with their mental and spiritual health alongside their physical health.”

Here at Carson Valley Health, he is ready to see patients of all ages and life stages. “I love to see mom, dad, kids, babies, and grandparents,” he says. “I can see all ages.” Being able to see patients from a young age allows them to grow up seeing Dr. Holt for most of their life.

Dr. Holt is passionate about his role as a primary care physician and the opportunities to get to know whole family units. “I like family medicine too because you are like the quarterback of their medical care. You are there to help them navigate the system, work with specialists, and you get to provide comprehensive care.”

Local athletes can also benefit from seeing Dr. Holt. He played college baseball at Texas Wesleyan for two years. There, he learned about working as a team and the balance between striving to be better at baseball, while also doing well in biology and pre-med. “I made a lot of friends, but I was better at being a doctor than playing baseball.” His time as an athlete helped to develop a passion for sports medicine, and he is ready to see athletes, from adolescents through to adults.

Addressing the Carson Valley community, Dr. Holt says: “I hope they can trust me with their care and enjoy coming to the doctor, and we can focus on their individual goals and make them healthier.”
