CVH welcomes James Cunningham, MD, to Ironwood Specialty Care

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. – It was the small-hospital feel and desire to continue serving patients that drew Dr. James Cunningham to Carson Valley Health after 27 years of practicing urology in nearby Carson City.

A graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Cunningham has been fortunate to leverage his interest in science, biology, and the human body into a fulfilling and rewarding career while raising a family in the outdoor playground of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

“Carson City has been a great place to practice urology,” Dr. Cunningham said. “I’ve built a lot of relationships with patients over the years that I will likely continue to work with here in the Carson Valley. I’m also proud of the rapport I’ve built with local doctors and am looking forward to continuing to work with them.”

Dr. Cunningham performed an assortment of procedures for Carson Valley Health in recent years before being hired full-time, including bladder cancer and kidney stone removal surgeries and has a reputation as a compassionate and knowledgeable doctor.

“This is a wonderful next and final chapter in my career,” he said. “I love the culture down here and the staff seems extremely motivated.”

When he isn’t practicing or studying medicine, Dr. Cunningham can likely be found watching college sports, having fun out on the trails, on the golf course, or around Lake Tahoe.

Anyone having urinary symptoms, including needing to urinate frequently at night, difficulty emptying their bladder, kidney stones, or blood in their urine are encouraged to see their primary care doctor for a referral. Patients without symptoms are also encouraged to schedule appointments to help prevent urinary issues by being proactive.
