Carson Valley Health ANNOUNCES 2022 DAISY NURSING AWARD WINNER

Carson Valley Health ANNOUNCES 2022 DAISY NURSING AWARD WINNER

Carson Valley Health named Rebecca Robidart, RN the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award for Extraordinary Nursing winner. Rebecca, a five year nursing veteran, was nominated by a grateful patient who says, “She is the sweetest, most caring nurse I have ever dealt with.”

“I feel Rebecca deserves this award because of her kind, caring and thoughtful attitude with my treatment until it was completed. She definitely puts her heart into her job and cares for her patients,” said Susan, an oncology patient who nominated Mrs. Robidart. Rebecca connected Susan to necessary services in other departments, ensuring she received the follow up care she needed even after she was done with the care she required in radiology.

When asked about winning this award, Mrs. Robidart held back tears, “I’m honored and surprised to know that what I did meant so much to Susan that she nominated me. She is a strong woman, and I’m here to help her.” Rebecca went on to say she couldn't do her job without her tremendous radiology team and the rest of the hospital staff.

“Rebecca is an example of the excellent nursing staff here at CVH. One of the benefits of working in a small hospital is the staff really get to know the patients, treating them like family while guiding them through their treatments. Rebecca’s compassion toward Susan exemplified this, making her truly deserving of this award,” said Andrea Highfill, DNP, RN, Chief Nursing Officer.

Nominations are encouraged year-round, and winners are chosen by a committee in the winter and spring. Patients, families, and colleagues are all encouraged to nominate nurses who go above and beyond for their patients. Founded in 1999, The DAISY Foundation was formed by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from a complex medical condition after eight weeks in hospital care, where he received “kindness and compassion every day” from the nursing staff, according to the foundation’s website.

Here’s how Patrick’s father, Mark Barnes, describes the reason DAISY was created: “As Patrick’s family, we brainstormed what to do in his memory. We vividly recalled the skillful and compassionate care Patrick received from his nurses during his eight-week hospitalization. We wanted to say “thank you” to nurses everywhere by establishing a recognition program, The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses (The DAISY Award).”
