Mental Health Awareness at Carson Valley Health

This May, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is sharing a powerful message: “Together for Mental Health.” CVH supports NAMI’s vision of unity. We remain passionate in our belief that everyone impacted by mental illness deserves access to life-saving support and high-quality mental health care close to home.

After all, mental health is an important part of your overall health.

Your mental health directly influences your psychological, emotional, and social well-being. Mental health can even affect decisions you make every day, including your choices about food, sleep, work, friends, and family. At CVH, we believe that, together, improving the mental health of our community is more than just possible — it’s essential!

Mental Health Resources at CVH

As we promote Mental Health Awareness, we’re spreading the word about two important mental health resources at Carson Valley Health.

IMPORTANT: If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, please call 911 immediately. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 800.273.8255 and they are a 24/7, free, and confidential service for those experiencing suicidal thoughts.

CVH Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic Offers Trauma Support Group

“Supporting a partner or a loved one in healing from trauma can be complex and challenging in many ways,” Clinic Manager Erin Dudley said, “Many groups in the community focus on individuals who have experienced trauma, but there can be little support for the spouses and family members of these individuals.”

Recognizing the crucial role that adult spouses and family members play in supporting people with trauma, CVH offers a 10-week Trauma Support Group, which covers topics including:

  • What trauma is
  • Cognitive distortions
  • Emotional regulation
  • Mindfulness
  • Boundaries
  • Self-Care

If someone you love is recovering from trauma, please call the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic for more information about the Trauma Support Group at .775.782.1630.

We will bill attendees’ insurance to cover the cost of the support group, and some individuals may qualify for financial aid. However, no attendees will be turned away due to cost.
