Care Close to Home at the CVH Rehabilitation and Outpatient Therapy Center

Carson Valley Health (CVH) has been serving the community with exceptional care since we opened our doors in the ‘90s. As our community in Gardnerville, Nevada grew, so did we. CVH has since become the largest medical center of its kind in Douglas County

Our health system includes our Rehabilitation and Outpatient Therapy Center, which offers best-in-class care in several types of therapies, including aquatic therapy, hand therapy, pediatric therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, vestibular rehabilitation therapy and occupational therapy. Whether you live with a chronic illness or are recovering from an acute injury, the care you need is always close to home.

Aquatic Therapy

We understand that every person’s healthcare needs are different. Aquatic therapy provides a way to improve strength and balance while keeping the weight off your injuries and reducing pain. Water affords a level of support that makes many therapy exercises more manageable for patients with certain conditions and injuries, such as:

  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Arthritis
  • Multiple Sclerosis and many others

After an initial evaluation, you’ll be educated on the pool therapy process and your long-term care goals will be discussed. A licensed therapist will teach you about pool therapy and assist you in goal setting. As your treatment progresses - and your strength increases - you may eventually be referred to land-based therapy.

Hand Program

Are you having issues with pain or decreased mobility in your hands? You’ve tried everything within your power to heal, but the pain is holding you back? If so, CVH offers a hand therapy program to help you get back to doing the activities you love, whether you’re dealing with joint issues, hand injuries, or a chronic condition, such as carpal tunnel disease.

Hand Therapy

As a licensed physical therapist guides you through specialized exercises designed to improve hand strength and mobility, you may benefit from a reduction of pain, swelling, and scar tissue.

Pediatric Therapy

We are continually expanding our pediatric therapy program. Our staff is passionate about our role in educating caregivers and parents and can accommodate a wide range of therapy needs for babies, children, teens, and young adults, including:

  • Concussion rehabilitation
  • Newborn/infant repositioning for conditions like torticollis or scaphocephaly
  • Aquatic therapy
  • Fine and gross motor development
  • Speech, gross and fine motor skills therapy for children on the autism spectrum
  • Therapy for congenital diagnoses
  • Speech therapy
  • Physical therapy for sports injuries

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy services help ease your pain and get you back to your daily life after major surgeries or accidents. With a licensed physical therapist by your side, you can enjoy greater comfort and more mobility.

Take it from our 80-years-young patient, Mary! Mary hikes 100 miles every year during the summer, but joint pain began to make her yearly adventure more challenging. She worked hard with a physical therapist to improve her joint strength and mobility. She has since returned to the adventurous lifestyle she loves and is planning to go hiking again this year.

Occupational Therapy

We hear a lot of misconceptions about what the term Occupational Therapy (OT) means. Some people believe OT is not for them because it must be related to a career. Occupational therapy is focused on helping you thrive at the ‘job’ of living and taking care of yourself. Our licensed occupational therapists will evaluate your needs and help you learn new techniques to tackle life skills such as:

  • Getting dressed
  • Cooking
  • Driving
  • Bathing
  • Toileting

If necessary, your licensed occupational therapist will also provide and teach you how to use special tools and adaptive equipment to make your activities of daily living (ADLs) easier.

Speech Therapy

We know that your ability to communicate is critical to your well-being. Our speech pathologists (SPTs) are experts in a wide range of techniques to assist patients of all ages who have impaired speaking abilities:

  • articulation therapy
  • stroke rehabilitation
  • traumatic brain injury rehabilitation
  • and cognitive function rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is used to help patients who struggle with dizziness, vertigo, or maintaining balance. This program is a specialized form of physical therapy. Your therapist will teach you exercises designed to decrease any balance issues and prevent falls.

Our team includes specially certified therapists who aid people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and other neurological conditions. Working with these highly qualified therapists, patients may achieve improved balance and gait.
