GARDNERVILLE, NV. (January 28, 2016) – Carson Valley Health is pleased to announce the expansion of its oncology support services with the addition of an information and discussion group developed around the specific needs of men who have been diagnosed with cancer.

“The Men’s Group – Conversations for Men Kicking Cancer,” will be facilitated by Robert Macias, twelve-year guide and facilitator for the nationwide Reel Recovery program. Designed as a six-month series, meetings will be held at Carson Valley Health on the first Wednesday of each month beginning March 2, 2016. With guest speakers from a variety of medical specialties, the six-month program will address the unique challenges, fears and questions that men have on their journey toward cancer recovery.

Lori Salvador, RN Manager at the CVH Infusion Center estimates that 40% of the cancer patients that walk in her doors are men. “I see the male patients putting their best face forward. Making certain that they appear strong and without fear especially in the presence of family and caregivers,” says Salvador. “A men’s group will provide them the opportunity to have an open dialogue about diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and personal relationships, with other men in a setting devoted exclusively to their needs.”

The goals of the group are to improve the quality of life for men and their families, and increase access to accurate information and resources. For more details, inquiries can be directed to Bob Macias at 775.782.8881.
