woman exercising(GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (March 6, 2015 - Carson Valley Health's Rehabilitation Services Department has launched a new program to meet the unique physical therapy needs of women. CVH's new Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation program works with women of all ages to regain quality of life and confidence lost due to damage to the pelvic floor musculature that is common with childbirth, traumatic injury, and aging.

It is estimated that nearly one quarter of women in the US suffer from some pelvic floor dysfunction. Symptoms include urinary urgency or incontinence, pain in the pelvic and lower-back regions, sexual discomfort, and peri-pregnancy pain. CVH Physical Therapist Margie Sever explains that this does not have to be accepted as simply a normal part of aging or one of the life-long side effects of child bearing. "Women of all ages can be affected by pelvic floor dysfunction, and very few are comfortable talking about it. yet the reality is that there are physical and medical therapies that can help alleviate the symptoms of these conditions, regardless of an individual's age."

Margie has been specially trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation techniques and has been a practicing physical therapist for over 25 years.

Patients can schedule an initial consultation by calling 775.782.1519. A physician referral may be required for insurance purposes, so patients are encouraged to open up the conversation with their primary care provider.

Carson Valley Health is a non-profit medical facility that provides acute and ICU care, surgery, 24-hour emergency services, and outpatient services. A partnership of Barton Health and Renown Health, Carson Valley Health's mission is to promote the health and wellness of the Carson Valley.
