The U.S. Living Will Registry offers this service for $125. The State of Nevada Secretary of State's office offers a no-cost alternative for Nevadans. The Living Will Lockbox, a virtual lockbox in which certain directives, including living wills, powers of attorney, and "do not resuscitate" (DNR) orders can be filed, is an access-protected options for residents. Established by the 2007 Nevada State Legislature, the Living Will Lockbox was developed and is maintained by the office of the Secretary of State.
Filing a living will and associated documents with www.livingwilllockbox.com is free. The Nevada Legislature provided initial funding for creation of the registry and the ongoing cost of maintaining and operating the registry is supported by various grants and sponsors. As a secure electronic filing system, accessible only by authorized healthcare providers and with individuals whom the registrant shares the registration password, the Living Will Lockbox ensures that the patient's wishes will be known during the times when it may be physically or mentally impossible to express them.
