Although several confirmed and probable cases have been reported in the areas around our community, so far the Carson Valley has not seen a confirmed case of the H1N1 virus. Since 4/26/09, Carson Valley Health has sent 54 samples for testing for the virus, none coming back positive.
Most of the confirmed cases of H1N1 in the United States have been mild and required nothing more than isolation and home treatment. In our community, it is recommended that patients who are experiencing mild flu symptoms stay home and away from others to avoid spreading their illness. Contact your medical care provider by phone for further guidance.
Patients who become severely ill or who are at risk for complications from the flu should seek medical care. Symptoms such as: difficulty breathing, inadequate fluid intake, confusion or altered mental status, severe headache, sudden weakness, change in vision, or rapid worsening of symptoms warrants a visit to your regular medical care provider or the Emergency Room.
Carson Valley Health (CVH) is prepared for the possible spread of the H1N1 virus to the area. All CVH hospital, emergency room, clinic, and urgent care patients with symptoms of influenza will be examined and treated according to strict protocols for anti-viral treatment and containment of the virus.
The CVH Emergency Room is open 24 hours a day seven days a week at the south end of Gardnerville. The CVH Urgent Care is located at 1649 Lucerne St. in Minden and is open Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm. Topaz Ranch Medical Clinic, serving patients of Wellington and surrounding areas is located at 3919 Carter Dr. in Topaz Ranch Estates and is open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm, walk-ins are welcome.
