Dr. James Y. Chang, M.D., F.A.C.P., board-certified Hematologist-Oncologist has joined the Carson Valley Health team. Adding hematology/oncology to CVH’s scope of services is the latest step in continuing to provide comprehensive care to the Carson Valley community. Together with the services at the CVH Infusion Center, cancer patients don’t have to go far for care.

“I wanted to help provide the community a location that is conveniently close to home for their care,” Dr. Chang said.

Dr. Chang is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. Born and raised in Taiwan, he came to the United States 40 years ago. He trained in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University before pursuing Hematology/Oncology in Los Angeles; where after finishing his fellowship he became a practitioner in Bakersfield, working over 30 years in private practice. He raised his family in Bakersfield and has three children who currently attend University at Stanford, Yale and MIT.

“I feel I was born to serve those patients in need by helping them physically, mentally, and spiritually,” Dr. Chang said. “Being a solo practitioner helped me get to put the focus on the patients.”

Dr. Chang’s approach to cancer care is a holistic one. He enjoys playing calming music to relax patients during treatments. “Music is very important to my approach to avoid negative media during a patient's time with me.” Chang says. He also encourages patients to spiritually exercise their methods of comfort while also recommending healthy foods, nutrients, and exercises.
